Secretaries Kaylynn Bergland and Carol Winkles have recently filed charges that Dr. Ebadi, the former Chair of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Therapeutics has sexually harassed them. We phoned Dr. Ebadi who declined to comment.

There appears to be something profoundly wrong in that pharmacology department. Dr. Ebadi left citing a hostile work environment.

Dr. Fathy Massiha , a tenured professor and former chairman of UND's pharmacology department was dismissed by UND President Kendall Baker. Massiha chaired the pharmacology department from April 1, 1987 to Sept. 15, 1988, when the dean of the UND Medical School removed him from the position.

In his appeal, Messiha strongly disputed the charges against him and argued the university had failed to follow the proper procedures for removing him. He included evaluations in which students praised his teaching abilities; he noted he earned international recognition for his research on alcohol use.

Fathy, who is from Switzerland and who is Christian was stereotyped as a middle-eastern Muslim. His co-workers stated that they were afraid of him.and found him "disruptive" in meetings.

Messiha's lawyer, Daniel Chapman of Bismarck, challenged the legality of the dismissal process and called the issue one of academic freedom. Chapman asked: Should someone lose their job because they speak up at meetings and refuse to be a ``bootlicking conformist?''

Recently, Pharmacology Dr. James Drewett was accused of creating a hostile work environment as well as he jumped up and down in lab and threw things. We were sent this private report.

Now this pales in comparison to the reports we got last year that the Chair of Pathology, Epstein was getting seed money each semester from EPSCoR of ND to the tune of $50,000. Apparently, Epstein did this by saying each semester that he was a new professor and needed "start-up grants" for new labs and such. This went on for ten years. If you do the math it is a million dollars! We ran an article called GROUND A LITTLE "HOT" FOR EPSTEIN TO WALK ON? and he fled UND within a month taking all the grad students with him. Of course Harvey Knull, who gave the money to Dr. Epstein fled quickly as well!

Of course there was Dr. Blake who fled as well BLAKE-ANOTHER $186,000 SIPHONED OFF!

Then we found out that a retired Nurse was running the UND Medical school.

and then even more bizarre that the University of North Dakota's medical students were being taught by the local animal vet. Even more disturbing is the fact that he is also the Director of UND Biomedical Research! Does this mean that all of the RESULTS of the medical researchers at UND must be assessed by the local VETERINARIAN?[LEE, KAP J., Director of UND Biomedical Research Facility and Professor of Community Medicine and Rural Health; D.V.M.
