I find it hard to believe that people would be so naive about this as to be shocked or surprised. For months the rumor mill had been circulating just this opinion: Ralph E would shut the whole thing down if the nickname were changed.
I do find Korsmo's comment about where RE's priorities lie (academics or hockey) to be instructive, although perhaps short-sighted. Over a decade ago, while faculty had gone 3 out of 4 years without a salary increase, RE pledged $5 million to hockey, for which the current arena was named after him. And the administration, with Clifford in the lead, accepted it, instead of saying, this is just not right. Apparently in the belief that a university derives its reputation from NCAA championships.
Well, with this most recent brouhaha, at least RE and the higher ed administrators have shown themselves to be consistent.

All the details follow below, it is all about money. If you continue with Englestad's comments about Kupchella about being broke in a business setting for indecision, at least he is not morally broke, as Englestad make himself out to be in these comments.
