UND Affirmative Action Officer Sally Page's Near Brush With Death!

A couple of years ago UND kept a fleet of automobiles for staff and faculty use. Faculty was informed that it was a good idea to reserve these vehicles at least a week in advance so that proper accommodations could be made. Dale Swanson who had worked as UND Mechanic I for the last 17 years was in charge of maintaining these vehicles. Dale had come in from a late conference when he looked at the list and discovered to his horror, that the bookkeeper had matched Sally Page who is a 'larger than average' woman on short notice with the only car that was left- a Ford Tempo. Dale took the employee aside and told him that this was a potentially dangerous situation.  It was a really small car and a really big woman. He was afraid that when the automatic seatbelt engaged, Miss. Page could be suffocated or worse. If she was able to squeeze herself into the vehicle he worried that she would not be able to operate it properly. Dale phoned Sally Page and discerned that she had an appointment that could not be moved and that she needed that car. In preparation, they moved the front seat back as far as it could go.

Sally Page came in and everyone was really nervous. Dale had some tools put aside in case they had to cut her free. They watched as she squeezed all of her 350 plus pounds  into a space that was just not meant for her body. Everything was in slow motion as the staff watched her labor at compressing a large mass into a space that just did not have the capacity to hold her. The car sank low on it's tires and Dale feared for the worst as the seat belts began to close in upon her. Dale almost  'hit the floor' when he caught her glance and her reaction to the terror on his face. Fortunately nothing did happen, but he was called in to her office and fired shortly after.

It seems that with total disregard to the 17 years of dedicated service that Mechanic I Dale Swanson put into UND, and with no regard to his good work record and work skills, UND chose to replace him with a local car wash employee that was subsidized by the state so they could pay $6,000 less a year.  This carwash employee was to do all of the mechanical work on the UND vehicles.

Firing and replacing Dale Swanson with an inferior worker was illegal and violated the terms of his contract. Dale went to an attorney and found out what he could do.  Dales first step was to file a grievance with Affirmative Action Officer Sally Page. Upon receiving his formal grievance which was based on the fact that he had been fired in violation of the contract (Miss Page who is 50 years old) allegedly ran to his superiors who then re-fired him. Miss Page has been charged in the past on several occasions with undermining victim's claims by bringing to the attention of their malefactors what they did wrong to legally dress up their acts.
